Waco Developer Meetup

Must-Know Details

I'm working alongside Startup Waco to launch a Waco developer* meetup!

We launch on May 29th from 5 pm to 8 pm at Startup Waco, 605 Austin Ave.

*Developer: a person who writes code, also known as a software engineer. We also include and welcome technically minded humans who love to learn and talk tech.

The Lengthier Details

I'm excited to bring developers together locally in the Waco area to bring a sense of community and belonging among coders in our local community. COVID changed everything, and we're all homebodies now, which is quite cozy, I won't argue; however, it's also quite isolating, especially if you work from home, or are a team of one or few.

I remember in 2015 when I lived near Minneapolis, MN, and could attend a developer meetup nearly every night of the week. It helped us bond by sharing stories and techniques. There is no owner's manual for being a developer, no code of ethics, or laws of practice we must abide by; we're just learning as we go and building better solutions than the day before. The only way we get better is by being exposed to our peers which most of us lack that exposure in our day-to-day lives.

Big Dreams: I’m thinking a faith-based Waco tech conference, a well-attended recurring meetup, and a few hackathons per year to support local non-profits and small businesses. We have local lives we can change with our technical chops, and a local community we can enrich. 🫶

Partnerships

If technical nerds in Waco are an audience for you (self-labeling here), I’m looking to bring in a few partners who want to help us all relax and build meaningful relationships. Things like video or board games, other fun activities, content or entertainment, yummy treats, or problems to solve. We love solving problems, from escape rooms to how to automate your client workflow.
